Overview

Rude Awakening ("the App") is designed to run almost entirely on your device. We do not operate backend servers for core app functionality. Your alarm data, calendar data, streak progress, credits, and preferences are stored locally on your device and synced via Apple's iCloud/CloudKit service.

Data We Do Not Collect

  • Calendar data: The App reads your calendar events using Apple's EventKit framework to provide smart alarm suggestions and evening briefings. This data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to any server.
  • Audio data: Sleep sounds and alarm audio play locally. We do not record or transmit any audio from your device.
  • Location data: The App does not request or use your location.
  • Health data: The App does not access Apple Health or any health-related data.

Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device and synced via CloudKit to your other devices signed into the same Apple ID:

  • Alarm schedules and preferences
  • Character and sound selections
  • Streak history and rank progression
  • Alarm Credit balance and transaction history
  • App settings and preferences

Third-Party Services

  • Apple CloudKit: Used for syncing your data across your devices. Data is stored in your private iCloud container and is not accessible to us.
  • Apple StoreKit: Used for processing subscriptions and in-app purchases. Payment information is handled entirely by Apple.
  • Apple WeatherKit: Used to fetch weather data for morning briefings. Weather requests are made directly from your device to Apple's servers.

Analytics

We may use Apple's built-in app analytics or a privacy-focused analytics service (such as TelemetryDeck) to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data. This data does not identify individual users and is used solely to improve the App. No personal information is included in analytics data.

Subscriptions and Purchases

Subscription and purchase data is managed entirely through Apple's App Store infrastructure. We do not have access to your payment information. Purchase receipts are validated on-device using StoreKit.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties. Period.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
